Colour poems

This week we have been writing poems inspired by colours and our senses.  We tried to use rich descriptive language to paint pictures in the mind of our reader.  Have a read and leave us a comment!

Baseball Week 8

Room 5's baseball skills have been improving during our weekly sessions with Nick and Ricky.  Today we played a proper game and a few students got to try out pitching as well!

Research Skills - skimming and scanning

In reading, we are learning how to research. This week we have learned the difference between facts and opinions, how to write open ended questions and how to skim and scan for keywords. Miss T photocopied some information about lions from a non-fiction book and we had to skim and scan with our buddy and highlight the key words. Key words help to keep us focused on finding information to answer our questions. Next week, we will be answering our questions and presenting our information. Stop by our blogs next week for an update!

Rippa Rugby game

Some of our Year 5 and 6 students have been learning to play Rippa Rugby after school on Wednesday.  Yesterday they had a game against St. Patricks.  They had lots of fun trying out their new rugby skills.  Here are some photos taken by Gozan, our photographer on the sidelines.

Buddy Writing

Today we worked with our writing buddy to write an explanation about why people wear shoes. First we planned our explanation as a class then we used the plan to help us write our explanation with our buddy. We enjoyed working with a buddy because we found it easier to think of lots of good ideas to write about and we were able to do lots more writing than we could get done writing on our own.

How do scissors work?

Today a group of writers worked with Miss Thomas to write an explanation about how scissors work. They remembered that an explanation needs to have an introduction (beginning), some ideas in order and a conclusion (ending). Have a read of their amazing explanation!

How do scissors work?
Scissors are a tool that we use for cutting. We can cut paper, material, fingernails, cardboard and hair.   Scissors have handles and two blades.

To hold scissors, you put your thumb in the top hole of the handle and your next two fingers in the bottom hole of the handle. Then you open the blades by moving your thumb and fingers away from each other. Next, put the paper in between the blades and push the handles together. Move the paper around as you cut it. You need to keep opening and closing the blades.

Scissors are a very useful tool.

Name totem artworks

Check out our amazing artwork! We learned about reflection (we had to reflect the letters in our name to create the body of our artwork) and hot and cold colours. These artworks look so cool decorating the wall of our classroom and we are really proud of how they turned out. If you are passing our classroom, please pop in and have a look!

Rubbish in our school

One of our ideas to solve the rubbish problem around our school is making posters to encourage people to put their rubbish in the bin.  These students have made posters in comiclife using photos they took.

What's the problem?

Today we went for a walk around our playground and field area and we noticed a problem.

There is rubbish everywhere! Our challenge is to think of a way we can help stop this problem. Do you have any ideas?

Peacemakers and Peacebreakers

Today we shared ideas about how to be a Peacemaker in the classroom and ways we might be Peacebreakers. We are going to try really hard to be peacemakers and help each other to learn. Visit our individual student blogs to read how each of us is going to be a peacemaker. Do you have any ideas to add to our brainstorm?
