Animal Alphabet

Room 5 have been working on their presentation skills. They made an animal alphabet presentation using some of the skills they learned, such as matching colours to photos, using shapes for text boxes and using different clear fonts. They also discovered some interesting animals along the way! by Mya and Inotia by Shannon and Harlem by Jorja by DJae and Harry

Writing Information Reports

Today we worked in groups to analyse a selection of information reports. We looked for things that were the same in all the reports, things that were different, what kind of words/vocabulary were used and how the information reports were structured. We noticed lots of special features. Check back soon to read our information reports. We have got some excellent success criteria to help keep us focused as we write.

Art - Paint Blending

In art, we have been learning some paint skills, focusing on blending paint from dark to light to create different colours. This slideshow is our finished work. Some Room 5 students have done an amazing job of blending paint so the colour only changes a little bit each time. Now we can use our newly learned skills to paint some landscapes!

Unusual Animals

Room 5 worked together to make this slideshow about unusual animals. Each student had a different animal to create a slide about. We were learning how to use the research tool in google presentation to find information and photos, how to create an effective layout and how to use colour effectively. Do you know the name of any more unusual animals we could find out about? If you do, please leave us a comment!

Kiwisport - football

Today Room 5 had their first session of football skills with Ben from Kiwisport.  Unfortunately it had been raining a lot so we had to work in the hall.  We had lots of fun playing games and learning some basic skills, then we played some quick football games.  Hopefully the weather will be sunnier next week so we can play football outside!

Fractions posters - comparing fractions to half

Room 5 have been learning about comparing and ordering fractions.  Today, they worked with a buddy to make a poster about less than half, more than half and equal to half.  Each group was given a page of fractions to sort (some groups had pictorial representations of fractions and some groups had numerical fractions).  Then they had to present their findings.  Check out the slideshow to see photos of Room 5 working collaboratively with their buddies and their finished posters.

Habitat definition

Today Room 5 used a google drawing to present their definition of a word related to our inquiry learning.  We have been learning about using colour and layout effectively and learning to use some new tools, like word art and the cropping tool.  This is the definition of the word habitat that we worked on together.  Visit our individual blogs to check out more of our definitions.

Art - blending

Room 5 have been learning some paint skills that will help them with their art this term.  They have been learning to use a paintbrush correctly, apply paint thickly, work from dark to light and blend different colours.  Their task was to use 2 colours of paint and gradually paint from one colour to another.  This slideshow has photos of some of Room 5 in action blending and painting.  Check back soon to see photos of our finished paint blending.
