Maths - Problem Solving

This week we have been working on solving word problems in maths.  First, we worked in our thinking group to solve some problems.  Then, we chose a problem and created a google drawing showing how we solved it step by step.  Here are some examples of our learning.

Animal Kingdom by Sajiha

Sajiha has had lots of creative fun on her Animal Kingdom maths activity.  She had to find 5 images of animals that are taller than her and 5 images of animals that are shorter than her. She labelled each animal with how tall it is.  Visit her blog to see more of her amazing work (http://pbssajihaa.blogspot.co.nz/).  Remember to leave her a comment!

Kahawai reading activity by Zeba

This is one of the reading activities Zeba chose to complete. She read a story called Kahawai. It was about a girl and her grandma in Auckland and it was set in the future.  In the story it is horrible - Auckland is polluted and the message is that if you don't care about the Earth now, in the future the Earth is going to be polluted. So start planting trees and pick up your rubbish. The activity was to write down all the things that they thought might be in the polluted water in the future and add some pictures.  Visit Zeba's blog (http://pbszebas.blogspot.co.nz/) to check out more of her digital learning creations.  Please leave her a comment with some feedback.

Film Festival Ideas

Today a group of students worked with Miss Paton to gather some ideas for the film festival coming up in Term 3. They looked at a variety of films from past film festivals and thought about what they liked and what entertained them. These are the things that they noticed. Now we are ready to start planning our film festival video!

Habitat definition

Today Room 5 used a google drawing to present their definition of a word related to our inquiry learning.  We have been learning about using colour and layout effectively and learning to use some new tools, like word art and the cropping tool.  This is the definition of the word habitat that we worked on together.  Visit our individual blogs to check out more of our definitions.
